Big Ship Record to be set by CMA CGM Marco Polo Wednesday, May 26

The 16,022-TEU CMA CGM MARCO POLO is the largest container ship to ever call North America’s east coast, and it will be visiting the Port of Savannah this Wednesday, May 26. CMA CGM MARCO POLO can carry more than 16,000 20-foot-long containers, known as TEUs in the shipping industry. The containers fitting on the vessel would span nearly 61 miles if placed end-to-end. The massive ship’s length is 1,300 feet, longer than the Empire State building is tall at 1,250 feet from street level to observation deck. It is set to pass River Street at approximately 8:30am and will be in Charleston Friday morning. A specific time for departure from Savannah has not been set.

In commemoration of the CMA CGM MARCO POLO’s record-breaking journey, CMA CGM Group will host an Instagram contest for the most beautiful pictures in each port city. Contest overview is as follows:

Simply post your best shots on Instagram, tagging @CMACGM with at least one of the following hashtags: #CMACGMRecord / #CMACGMMarcoPolo / #CCMarcoPoloSavannah.
