Savannah City Council Adopts SWCID Vision Plan, Awards $1,350,000 for Phase 1 Projects
Savannah’s Waterfront Community Improvement District (SWCID) is pleased to announce the adoption of their Vision and Implementation Plan for River Street by the Savannah City Council.
The SWCID Vision and Implementation Plan was developed by the board and introduced to our property owners last spring. The adoption of the plan by City Council is an important step in creating the foundation of the city’s upcoming River Street Redevelopment Project, laying the groundwork for future success to enhance the vibrancy, safety, and economic prosperity of the waterfront.
Working in partnership with the City of Savannah, SWCID has developed a collaborative process to provide a coordinated vision for our district, aligning with the community’s aspirations for the waterfront while setting priorities for short-, mid-, and long-term goals.
In addition to adopting the Vision and Implementation Plan for River Street, Savannah City Council awarded SWCID $1,350,000 to begin Phase 1 of the Ironwork, Accent Lighting, and Refuse Enclosure projects outlined in the plan. “The new ironwork identifying access points to River Street will give our guests iconic entrances at 10 locations while uplighting our signature facades will add a sense of place in the evenings. Additionally, the improvements to the refuse enclosures on each ramp will create ease of use for our employees and a more welcoming atmosphere for our guests” said Julie Musselman, Executive Director of SWCID.
