Thursday, Feb. 29, the last day of Black History Month, Plant Riverside District invites all to join in a community event at 6:00 p.m. at District Live, honoring our local rich history through the stories of “Down by the Riverside.” This evening program will feature Lillian Grant-Baptiste, an informed cultural artist, motivational speaker and master storyteller who will share stories that hail from the Gullah Geechee people from Coastal Georgia and South Carolina that are as deep and enduring as the Savannah River. Master Storyteller Lillian Grant-Baptiste will use the art of storytelling to tell the powerful, yet at times, poignant stories of the Gullah Geechee people.

Savannah is situated in the middle of the Gullah Geechee Corridor, rich with significant historical events, and Grant-Baptiste will soulfully and skillfully highlight and bring events such as “The Weeping Time,” “The Proclamation of Forty Acres and a Mule,” and many more to life. The performance will be exploding and bubbling over with creative and artistic expressions through African drumming, poetry, and the singing of soulful and melodic songs rooted in the African American traditions. The audience will be both mesmerized and riveted by the magic and movement of the performance, and will be on the edge of their seats, longing for more.

Doors to District Live will open at 5:30pm where guests can mix and mingle while purchasing a drink from our full cash bar and enjoying bites from the Baobab Bar and Lounge menu with Muhammara (Roasted Bell Pepper and Cashews Dip with Crudités), Lamb Kebabs (Sweet Pepper Relish, Schug Sauce, Lemon Balm), and Veggie Flatbread (Zaalouk, Roasted Mushroom and Pepper, Arugula, Goat Cheese.)

The program will start at 6:00pm and will conclude at 7:00pm.
