Driving

Driving: Driving access to River Street is from Bay Street via MLK, Jr. Blvd. or down the cobblestone-paved Barnard Ramp, Bull Ramp, Abercorn Ramp, or Lincoln Ramp.  River Street is one-way west (bridge) to east.

Please note: the Abercorn Ramp will be closed from January 15 – March 1, 2024 due to electrical upgrades.

Two new Parking Garages: Plant Riverside Garage located at 500 West River Street provides access to Plant Riverside District and West River Street.

Eastern Wharf Parking Garage located at 301 Passage Way provides access to Eastern Wharf and East River Street.

Parking on River Street: There are 3 city lots and 2 private parking lots. Lots are located at the Barnard Ramp, Abercorn Ramp, Lincoln Ramp and at the east end just before Morrell Park.

The garages and parking lots are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Walking

Multiple sets of historic steps lead from Bay Street and Factor’s Walk down to River Street.  Walking is also allowed on the cobblestone ramps.

Elevators: Public outdoor elevator located between the Hyatt Regency Savannah, 2 West Bay Street, and City Hall, 2 East Bay Street (Intersection of Bull and Bay Streets).

A second public outdoor elevator is located at The Alida Savannah, 412 Williamson Street right next to the grand staircase. The comfortable stairs run from the north terminus of Montgomery Street at Williamson Street down to West River Street and Factors Walk.

The River Street Visitor Information Center: 1 West River Street.  Adjacent to the Hyatt Regency Savannah at the foot of the Bull Ramp, behind City Hall. Stop here for a restroom break and to pick up some information.

By Ferry

The Savannah Belles Ferry system provides free passage across the Savannah River between River Street’s riverwalk and Hutchinson Island, home of the Savannah Convention Center and Westin Savannah Harbor Golf Resort & Spa.

The accessible ferries, which can accommodate bicycles and luggage, operate from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., seven days a week. Click here to see the Savannah Belles Ferry schedule.

Dogs of all sizes are allowed on the ferries but must remain on a leash or in a carrier.

The City of Savannah operates public bulkheads and floating docks on the Savannah River, parallel to popular River Street attractions. Mobility & Parking Services is the city department, which manages these facilities. Contact is Dockmaster Shawn Emerson email

The recreational dock is first-come, first-served (no reservations accepted). The first three hours are free. Please call (912) 651-3634, Monday – Friday, 8am to 5pm, after 5pm and holidays please call (912) 651-6477. When calling please provide your name, your phone number (cell) and the length of the vessel.

There are also two private docks open to the public that take reservations:
